Brand X
Brand X
BRAND X finished off 2017 with a bang, touring the entire West Coast USA selling out numerous shows, as well as getting industry recognition in four different categories with their 2017 album release: “But Wait… There’s More!”

#20 Album in ALL ABOUT JAZZ
#13 International Sales BURNING SHED
#11 Prog Charts in PROG MAG
# 2 Radio in NEW-EARS Boston

For 2018 Brand X has assembled a new show, with new songs and new production.
The band has been selected to play in three of the most prestigious Prog-Rock Music Festivals in the U.S.: Headlining opening night of RoS-Fest on May 4th in Gettysburg PA, Headlining the Saturday Night of Progtober-Fest in Chicago on October 20th, and now selected to play on YES’s “CRUISE TO THE EDGE” into the Caribbean next February 4-9, 2019.

Founding member and Guitarist John Goodsall: “It’s RoS-Fest 15 year Anniversary, so we’re honored to get the nod to headline opening night. The new show brings with it a host of new songs we haven’t played in ages – and some never before at all – and of course we’re excited to be picked to play along with YES on their Cruise To The Edge – looks like an epic line-up for that one.”

The new tour is in support of Brand X’s new album “Locked & Loaded/LIVE” with founders Goodsall & Percy Jones (Bass) still at the helm. Keyboardist Chris Clark, Percussionist Scott Weinberger, and Drummer Kenny Grohowski each bring their own unique artistry that make Brand X such a magical act live.

The original seeds were sown many years ago in London as players in a studio band for many of Brian Eno’s infamous solo albums. Drummer Phil Collins and Bassist Percy Jones got to know each other through those sessions. Later Jones and John Goodsall officially formed Brand X. Bill Bruford even played a few shows -- but was tied up with King Crimson and his own band Bruford, so it wasn’t long before Collins was locked in behind the Brand X Drum kit for good.

Brand X would sign with Genesis’ management company and they were off and running. They played several festivals dates along with Genesis like the infamous Knebworth Fest in England. With their first three albums “Unorthodox Behaviour”, “Moroccan Roll” and “Livestock” many critics hailed Brand X as the future. In a 1978 poll in England’s NME, Brand X were ranked first, above The Sex Pistols as new band of the year. In a sense they truly were at the forefront of the Jam-Band/Fusion sound. Today the band carries with it more Funk and Rock and less Jazz, but the improvised sections are still pure heaven.
Phil Collins balanced playing simultaneously in Genesis and Brand X for the early years – an act he handled well – and some claim some of Collins best work appears on those Brand X albums. Collins once explained his love for the energy and freedom created by Brand X thusly: “Genesis was like my wife, but Brand X was like this hot mistress -- with big tits!” The band continues to bring the heat, lighting up shows for the past year on their Reunion Tour.

PRESS: Brand X has been heralded in articles by The Huffington Post, Progression Magazine, English columnist Sid Smith, Music Journalist Anil Prassad, The Mid-Atlantic Music Journal, and many more for their consistently red hot and diverse shows. Aside from their world-class musicianship, you’ll find a dry English wit popping up reminiscent of Monty Python, Benny Hill and others. With song titles like: “Why Should I Lend You Mine, When You’ve Broken Off Yours Already?” or “Smacks of Euphoric Hysteria” – there’s never a dull moment… All that mixed with some of the most diverse music you’ve possibly heard in years, including fan favorites from their best known albums: "Unorthodox Behaviour", "Moroccan Roll", "Livestock", "Masques", "Do They Hurt?", "Product" “Is There Anything About?” and now of course 2017’s double album: “But Wait… There’s More!”
Brand X are often mentioned in the same circles as Weather Report, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius etc… But have influenced modern day bands like Dream Theatre and Phish.  On the recent West Coast tour, members of Metallica, The Dixie Dregs, King Crimson, Renaissance, Dream Theatre and others came out to catch the BX in action. 2018’s new album was recorded by YES Engineer Dave Wilkerson and is mixed by legendary Producer Stephen W. Tayler at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in England. Tayler is known for his work with Gabriel, Kate Bush, Underworld, Stevie Nicks, Suzanne Vega, Rush, Bill Bruford, and Brand X to name a few. The new album is produced by Brand X’s own Scott Weinberger and Norman Bedford.
